Digestive Health

Digestive symptoms can range from occasional discomfort to chronic conditions requiring ongoing medical management. We evaluate and treat many common gastrointestinal concerns and coordinate gastroenterology care when appropriate.

Acid Reflux (GERD)

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach contents repeatedly flow backward into the esophagus.

Symptoms may include heartburn, acid regurgitation, chest discomfort, chronic cough, or throat irritation. Treatment may include dietary and lifestyle changes, weight management, medications, and further gastrointestinal evaluation when indicated.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disorder that can cause abdominal discomfort, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, or alternating bowel habits.

Treatment is individualized and may involve dietary modification, lifestyle changes, management of stress-related triggers, and medications based on the patient’s predominant symptoms.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) primarily includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These conditions cause chronic inflammation within the digestive tract and may produce abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fatigue, and weight loss.

Patients with suspected or established inflammatory bowel disease may require evaluation and treatment by a gastroenterologist. Our Internal Medicine practice can help monitor overall health and coordinate care.

Peptic Ulcer Disease

Peptic ulcer disease involves sores that develop in the lining of the stomach or upper portion of the small intestine. Common causes include infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and the use of certain medications, particularly nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Symptoms may include upper abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, or bloating. Appropriate testing and treatment can help heal ulcers and reduce the risk of complications.
